Student Benefits
Students benefit from personal and professional growth, through making connections with business leaders who can open the doors of opportunity, by knowing that they have helped to improve the situations of others, and by deepening their understanding of the personal responsibility that underpins a market economy. Addressing the needs of diverse communities results in a deep sense of personal satisfaction.
Extensive interaction with peers, academics, and business leaders enables students to develop their networking skills, while making lasting friendships and meeting influential mentors in the process. Project-based work strengthens students’ interpersonal, communication and negotiation skills resulting in an increased professional value to future employers. Students are given an arena in which to demonstrate their capabilities and increase their confidence in their own areas of interest and expertise. Such personal empowerment provides a sound basis for the development of exceptional leadership skills.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need to submit a cover letter with my application?
No – you only need to submit a completed application form and up-to-date CV.
Can I apply for more than one position?
Yes, you can apply for as many positions as you like. You will only need to submit one application form, however you should list the positions in order of preference in Question 1, and you should answer Questions 5-7 for each position you are applying for.
I am a first year student and don’t have any professional work experience. Am I eligible to apply?
Of course! While professional experience may help your application it is not essential – we also look at your volunteering experience, leadership potential, teamwork skills and time management abilities.
I am a final year student. Am I eligible to apply?
Unfortunately, all of our long-term positions require a 1.5-year minimum commitment. We occasionally have short-term volunteer positions available, please enter your details into the form on your left so that we can stay in touch!
I am between courses at the moment and am planning to return to study next year. Am I eligible to apply?
Unfortunately, SIFE is a student organisation, and only currently enrolled students of the University of Melbourne are eligible to apply. We look forward to hearing from you when you are back next year!
I have unsuccessfully applied for a position with SIFE in the past. Am I eligible to apply?
Of course! Past applicants are welcome and encouraged to reapply.
When are your weekly meetings held?
Each project/functional team meets separately, so there is no set meeting time. Most of our members are quite busy with study, work and other extra-curricular commitments, so this is quite flexible to accommodate all team members, and meetings often occur late in the afternoon after classes have finished.
