Previous Projects
In 2007, EnviroSelect began as a SIFE project with the aim of becoming a catalyst for environmental change by facilitating consumers’ and businesses’ understanding about environmental issues and its economic benefits. EnviroSelect have created a mark of recognition that is awarded to businesses that demonstrate improvements in their environmental practices. Today, EnviroSelect is an independent not-for-profit organisation and 10 small businesses have been EnviroSelected to date.
In 2010, the University of Melbourne SIFE participated in the The Let’s Can Hunger Challenge, sponsored by SIFE and Campbell Soup Company. The Let’s Can Hunger Challenge is mobilising students around the world, coordinating urgent and lasting local hunger relief efforts and generating awareness about hunger.
The Community Voicemail project concerns the implementation of a voicemail system, as part of the communications protocol between the publishers of the Big Issue magazine and its vendors. Vendors each receive an individual phone number, which is used as a contact point from both the Big Issue and other third party organisations. The system provides the Big Issue’s vendors with a fixed contact number, which they use when applying for housing, employment, or other social services.
Back to Work equips recovered bone marrow transplant recipients with the skills necessary to re-enter the professional workforce. By facilitating short term job placements at a partner firm, participants are able to gain confidence and re-establish themselves in the professional arena, with the view to gaining permanent employment at the end of the transition period.
