T.A.G Schools Proposal Writing Workshop
On Saturday May 21st, nine secondary schools across Victoria joined the Think.Act.Green team at the University of Melbourne for an exciting day of budgeting and proposal writing. We kick started the morning with a round of environmental trivia where students were asked questions such as ‘what percentage of the Amazon rainforest is lost annually’ and ‘what is desalination’. The mic was then handed over to Mowen Lee, former SIFE member and current employee at Ernst & Young, to present the budgeting skills session for the morning. Mowen introduced the students to the inner workings of a budget, outlining how to plan a budget and describing ways to calculate income and expenses. Former Think.Act.Green member Krishna Nair and former SIFE member Wen Dee Yeoh took reigns over the proposal writing session, where they analysed last year’s winning proposal from PLC.
The morning session was followed by lunch where students were able to mingle and talk to Think.Act.Green members before
proceeding to the collaborative computer labs for a mini tutorial session. The students were guided by a Think.Act.Green member through a step-by-step process on how to develop a proposal. Each team was given a pack to assist in their proposal writing consisting of the budgeting and proposal writing slides, a proposal template and a budgeting spreadsheet designed to easily calculate income and expenses.
All in all, it was a successful day, with students working collaboratively and contributing fantastic ideas to their proposals. Special thanks to Wen Dee, Krishna and Mowen for presenting. We look forward to the next event ‘Presentation and Pitching Workshop’ coming up on Saturday 6th of August, where we hope to see the students fired up and ready to go for an exhilarating day of speech writing and presenting. Thanks also go to our major sponsor Shell and Faculty of Business and Economics at the University of Melbourne for their continual support.
